Avoid ...

Use soft markers to write on your DVD's.

... using a pen, pencil or hard-tip marker to write on your CDs or DVDs.

Keep your DVD's in paper sleeves or plastic cases in cool dry places.

... using "stick on", adhesive labels.

Handle discs by the outer edge or the center hole.

... any direct exposure to sunlight. The sun can do a great deal of damage both from exposure to ultraviolet rays and through the build up of heat.

Discs may be cleaned with a cotton cloth by wiping in a straight line from the center of the disc toward the outer edge.

... leaving your CDs and DVDs in your car over night. Any rapid significant change in temperature or humidity can stress the materials.

Discs last longest when stored in plastic cases in a cool, dark, dry environment. Because gravity can gradually bend the disc, storing it upright like a book is best for long-term storage.

... leaving fingerprints and smudges on your CDs and DVDs. They will frequently do more harm than scratches.

... using holders and sleeves with center snap rings. The pressure on the DVD when inserting and removing can cause damage to the DVD/CD.
