VEC allows coaches to mix media. It allows the coach to use:
- video from your digital video camera
- video from your regular non-digital video camera
- still pictures from your digital camera
- scanned images
- any file on your computer that has been saved as a picture as images in a brand new presentation.
VEC gives the coach many tools to help organize the video. Coaches can create buttons and tags with criteria to help describe the action on the video screen. Those same criteria can then be used to put together elements of many different video files into one film study. Titles and other graphics can then be added in for a high quality presentation.
Many coaches are familiar with iMovie from Apple Computer. It is a truly remarkable program. The Video Editor for Coaches allow you to combine all of the above media type into a new iMovie project. More than that, it allows you to carefully pick and choose what media to include; by allowing the teacher or coach to create rules for clip selection.
Ideas?
- Track Coach: Film all your long jumpers at three practices and two meets. Use VEC to organize and sort your video clips so that each athlete can see his/her jumps in a row. Use the slow motion option for increased analysis. Do you think your athletes can benefit from seeing themselves perform over several practices and meets?
- Football Coach: Use VEC to scout yourself - or your opponent. Create highlight videos of great plays or of great players. Give your defensive backs all of this week's opponent's best pass plays. Critique your offensive line play. Write notes to your players and have them appear on the screen before the play.
- Basketball Coach: Use VEC to critique your inbounds plays over the last four weeks. Having a problem beating the press? Use VEC to help your team learn from its mistakes. Got a great kid - send out a highlight film!
- Volleyball Coach: Use VEC to analyze serves, return serves, blocks and digs. Use VEC to help your athletes see the connection between drill work and game play.
